On behalf of the Organizing Committee, it is a great pleasure and honor to announce the hosting of the 17th European Wave and Tidal Energy Conference from September 5 to 9, 2027, in Athens, Greece.
EWTEC27 is organized by the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) in order to welcome the international wave and tidal energy community with a dynamic program, opportunities for meaningful interactions, and the unparalleled setting of Athens, which promises to be an unforgettable experience for all participants. It is indeed an absolute honor to gather the world’s leading researchers and scholars in marine renewable energy to drive the next wave of sustainable technology forward.
Our oceans hold the untapped potential to revolutionize the global energy landscape. The advancement of wave and tidal energy technologies is no longer just an ambitious goal—it is an environmental and economic necessity.
EWTEC is organized for the first time in Athens, Greece. Athens, which is often referred to as the cradle of Western civilization, is a city where ancient history meets modern innovation. As you delve into the technical program, you will also have the chance to explore Athens’ unique blend of historic landmarks, vibrant neighborhoods, and world-class cultural experiences. CONFERENCE SPECIAL ISSUE
Outstanding papers will be selected and considered for review and publication in the International Marine Energy Journal (IMEJ). The IMEJ (ISSN 2631-5548) is the associated journal of the European Wave and Tidal Energy Conference with all papers given a unique doi number.
CONFERENCE VENUE
The conference will take place at the Royal Olympic Hotel Athens, a five-star conference hotel located in the historic centre of Athens. Situated directly opposite the Temple of Olympian Zeus and close to the Acropolis, Hadrian’s Arch and the National Gardens, the venue is within easy walking distance of the historic Plaka district and many of Athens’ principal attractions, restaurants and shops. A wide range of alternative accommodation options are also available within the surrounding area.
The Royal Olympic Hotel provides extensive conference and event facilities, with a range of meeting rooms suitable for events of different sizes. The main Olympia Hall can accommodate up to 700 delegates in theatre-style seating and can be divided into two separate spaces. The venue also includes a spacious adjoining Olympia Foyer suitable for exhibitions, refreshments and networking, alongside a range of additional conference and breakout rooms. Many of the meeting spaces benefit from natural daylight, while the hotel’s central location provides impressive views towards some of Athens’ most recognisable historic landmarks.

GALA DINNER
The EWTEC 2027 Conference Gala Dinner will take place at the Lavrion Technological and Cultural Park (LTCP), a unique historic industrial complex in Lavrio, southeast of Athens.
Established on the site of the former French Mining Company of Lavrion, the Park has been transformed by the National Technical University of Athens into a centre for technology, research, innovation and culture. Its restored stone industrial buildings, many dating from the late nineteenth century, provide a distinctive setting that celebrates the area’s rich technological and industrial heritage.
The Gala Dinner will provide delegates with an opportunity to experience this unique venue and enjoy the Mediterranean cuisine along with traditional folklore music and dance show.
