The 16th European Wave and Tidal Energy Conference
EWTEC2025 | 7th – 11th September 2025 in Madeira, Portugal
Dear Member of the Renewable Marine Energy Community,
After organizing the second (Lisbon, 1995) and seventh (Porto, Portugal, 2007) European Wave and Tidal Energy Conference, the IDMEC and Instituto Superior Técnico are delighted to host the 16th European Wave and Tidal Energy Conference from September 7 to 11, 2025 and welcome the wave and tidal community to the Portuguese island of Madeira for EWTEC’25!
The conference is to take place at the The VidaMar Resort Hotel Congress Center. This venue faces the sea on sunny Madeira’s southern coastline. It is a short walk from central Funchal, with its shops, iconic market, shopping center, and museums, and just 30 minutes from Funchal’s International Airport. The venue is also at walking distance from various other accommodation options, which delegates can book. Madeira offers excellent travel connections with a range of accommodation to suit all budgets.
Madeira was awarded as Best Island Destination in Europe in 2020, and it counts on multiple attractions and leisure activities, most of them related to nature onshore and offshore.

CONFERENCE SPECIAL ISSUE
Outstanding papers will be selected and considered for review and publication in the International Marine Energy Journal (IMEJ). The IMEJ (ISSN 2631-5548) is the associated journal of the European Wave and Tidal Energy Conference with all papers given a unique doi number.
CONFERENCE VENUE
The conference will take place at the VidaMar Resort Hotel Congress Center, a premier seaside location on the southern coast of Madeira. It is a short walk from central Funchal, with its shops, iconic market, shopping center, museums, and just 30 minutes from Funchal’s International Airport. The venue is also easy walking distance from a range of alternate accommodation options, which delegates can book.
The venue comprises an ampitheatre (Sunrise Audiotrium, see below) with a 396 person capacity alongisde several conference rooms and exhibition spaces while the lunches will take place at the Ocean Buffet Restaurant with terrace and sea views.

GALA DINNER
The Conference Gala Dinner will take place at the Pestana Casino Park Hotel Panoramic Restaurant, which is surrounded by 15,000 m2 of private gardens. It was designed by the great master of world architecture, Óscar Niemeyer, next to the cruise port in Funchal Bay, just a 10-minute walk from the Congress venue and 5-minute walk from the city center.

Exhibition: Exhibition spaces are available for research institutes, universities and industrial professions. Queries relating to sales of exhibition spaces should be directed to EWTEC2025@ewtec.org. Exhibitior packages will include
- Conference registration (excluding the Conference Dinner) for one company representative
- Listing in the confrence handbook, including a 50-word profile of company or products and contact details
- A stand composed of white melamine panels in a shell scheme 2m x 2m or 3m x 2m, with a carpeted floor and lablel on one side in standard size vinyl.
- Power box of 1.2 kW
- 1 table and two chairs

Industry sessions: Industry sessions and side events are a great opportunity for you to showcase your company or research. These sessions will be announced and incorporated in the conference printed programme. All submissions for these sessions will be sent to the Scientific Committee for approval.
